If you know when you’d like to dine with us, we encourage you to make a reservation. Please call us at (540) 464-4401. We take reservations a maximum of 30 days in advance, unless you’re interested in renting the restaurant for a private party, in which case you can contact us up to 6 months in advance.
For reservations for parties of 5 or more, we require a credit card to hold the reservation. Due to our limited size, we request 24 hours’ notice for large-party cancellations or change in party size. No-shows will be assessed a $40 per person fee.
Absolutely. Reservations are recommended, however, since our seating is limited. But if it isn’t possible for you to make a reservation in advance, please come on by and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Yes. We will do our best to return your call on or before our next business day.
The Red Hen is located on the corner of Washington St. and Randolph St., one block off Main St. in downtown Lexington. There are parking spaces near the restaurant on Washington Street (eastbound), and on Randolph Street. You may also park in the parking lot of the Visitor’s Center, located just down the hill from the Red Hen on Washington St.
Finally, less than 200 yards from our door is the Randolph St. parking garage, which offers free sheltered parking.
Our monthly wine dinners and occasional special events, such as our Burns Night Supper in February, are booked as pre-paid tickets. For this reason, when you make your reservation, you’ll be asked for a credit card. If for some reason you won’t be able to attend, you can call up to 24 hours in advance and we’ll refund your ticket. You may also give your ticket to someone else or request a Red Hen gift certificate in the amount of the ticket.
No, we do not. We want you to feel comfortable in our restaurant, so please wear whatever you like.
Yes! The Red Hen is available for private parties such as birthdays, rehearsal dinners, graduation parties, and small weddings. Depending on the style of party, we can accommodate between 26 and 34 diners inside, with an additional 12 to 14 on the patio in good weather.
Our chef will be happy to work with you to tailor the menu to your requirements.

Graduation, Parents’ Weekends, and Alumni Reunions at Washington & Lee and VMI are our busiest times, with reservations in high demand. To ensure that we book those evenings fairly and efficiently, we begin taking reservations for them only 30 days in advance.
In addition, we regret that we can’t accommodate parties larger than six or any odd numbered parties for that weekend.
